(More customer reviews)We are on our second toy. The first one pooped out after the second try. I'm not sure if it was old batteries (will try to change them), or if the kid who "borrowed" it at the pool yesterday burned out the motor by pressing the propeller to his face (after I repeatedly asked him not to, of course). I'll get some new batteries for it, but I'm not hopeful. Since we wanted a second net anyway (what good is one net when this is supposed to be a game of who gets the fish first????), I picked up a second one today.
The fish is actually really cool. It doesn't just sink to the bottom, but swims along the top, middle, and bottom, varying the depth quite a bit. It has gone to the bottom of the deep end, then come back to the top and swam all the way back to the shallow end. It is most fun to use as a kind of "hide and go seek" in which those who are going to chase the fish close their eyes while another person plops the fish in. After counting to 10, they have to find the fish, figure out how deep it is, then swim down to get it. For those who are not swimmers, or who are just learning to swim under water, it will eventually come back up to the surface (or close to it), and they can catch him then.
My 6-year-old daughter LOVES this game. She has had basic swim lessons, but is not a super strong swimmer yet, and had never learned to swim underwater. Using this fish, I was able to get her swimming to the bottom and back to the surface with confidence all the way to the 5 ft. level within a day. She enjoys this much more than any of her other diving toys.
Hopefully the clownfish is just low on batteries, and if not, the shark holds up a bit better. All I know is that if any kids I don't know are at the pool (we have a community pool), it is coming out of the water and is going back in the tote from now on.
